They mGarried in June one afternoon in a church down by their home
She Cwore the ring his mother gave him the day that he left home
They Gdanced before their families and they held each other close
GAnd on that lovely night in June,D oh he loved her so G
GThe war took him to Paris one year since they had wed
He packed eCnvelopes and cigarettes ink and his fountain pen
He said IG will send you letters each week that I am gone
And I Cpromise you'll feel better,D when the postman comes G
GThe months had past on slowly and his boots had lost their tread
But sCtill he wrote his letters this week this one had said
GYou are always with me even when I feel alone
CAnd this rifle bears a burden and its heavy on my soul
GBut you wont have to miss me as once this war is won
CWe will be together, Dwhen the postman comes G
GCG
GShe opens the door to a man with a telegram
GA sad look on his face
GShe wipes away a single tear and she hears him say
GSomething about the military apologies in the ministry
And she Cfell, to the floGor
GShe questioned him said you've got this wrong
GMy husbands fast my husbands strong
GAnd I promise you'll know better,D when the postman comesG
GIf you've received this letter it means the worst has done
And I'm Csorry and I love you and this isn't what I want
GBut you will find another and I will understand
I just hCope he loves you more than any other can
GI sent you all these letters and for reasons there's just one
