On July 31st 1943 a bloody round in the battle for the Solomon Islands
Was being fought in the tangled jungle of the island of New Georgia
This is the story of one of the young men who fought and died there
This song is respectfully dedicated to those heroic infantrymen
Who like Rodger Young have sacrificed their lives
That their nation might remain forever free
Caught in aFmbush lay a company of rBbiflemen
Just greFnades against machine guns in the gBbloom
Caught in aEbmbush till this one of twenty rBbiflemGmen
VolunteBbered volunteFered to meet his dBboom
VAbolunteBbered RoFdger YoBbung fAbought and dBbied fFor the Bbmen he mF#arched aGmmong Bb
In the Ebeverlasting courage of tBbhe infGmantry Fwas the cBbourage of PFrivate Rodger YoBbung
On the iFsland of New Georgia in the SBbolomons
Stands a Fsimple wooden cross alone to Bbtell Bb7
That beEbneath the silent coral of the BbSoloGmmons
Sleeps a Bbman sleeps a man remFembered wBbell
SlAbeeps a mBban RoFdger YBboung fAbought and Bbdied fFor the Bbmen he mF#arched aGmmong Bb
