GI had an uncle name of AmMatthew...Dhe was his father's only bGoy
Born just south of Colby, AmKansas...Dhe was his mother's pride and jGoy
Yes, and joy waGs just the thing Che was raised Amon
Love waDs just a way to live aGndC dGie
Gold was just a windy CKansas wAmheat field
Blue waDs just a Kansas sCummer sGky
And all the stories that he Amtold Dme back when I was just a lGad
All the memories that he Amgave me...Dall the good times that he hGad
Growin' up a Kansas fAmarmboy...Dlife was mostly havin' fGun
Ridin' on his daddy's shAmoulders Dbehind a mule, beneath the sGun
Well, I guess there were some Amhard times Dand I'm told some years were lGean
They had a storm in 'Am47...Dtwister came and stripped 'em cGlean
He lost the farm and lAmost his family...he lost the wDheat, he lost his hoGme
But he found the family Ambible Dand faith as solid as a stGone
So he came to live at Amour house...Dand he came to work the lGand
He came to ease my daddy's buAmrdens aDnd he came to be my frGiend
So I wrote this down for MaAmtthew...Dit's for him this song is sGung
Ridin' on his daddy's shAmoulders Dbehind a mule, beneath the sGun
