Three Wooden Crosses
as performed by Randy Travis
A farmCer and a teacher, a hoAmoker and a preacher, rFidin' on a
midnight bus, Cbound for MexicGo.
One was heaCded for vacation, one for hAmigher education, and
Ftwo of them were seaGrchin' for lost sCouls.
That drivFer never, ever saw the stopGsign, and eighteen-F
wheelers can't stop on a dGime.
There are thCree wooden crosses on the Amright side of the highway.
WhyF there's not fCour of them heavGen only knows.
I guess it's nCot what you take when you lAmeave this world behind you.
It's whFat you leave behiGnd you when you Cgo.
That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres, a faith and love for
growin' things in his young son's heart.
And that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children and did
her best to give'm all a better start.
And that preacher whispered, "Can't you see the promised land?"as he laid
his blood-stained Bible in that hooker's hand.

That's a story thaGt our preacher told last Sunday, as he held that
blood-stained Bible up for all
of us to see. He said,
"Bless the faCrmer and the teAmacher and the preFacher
who gave this BiCble to my mama, who reGad it to me."
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
Why there's not four of them, now I guess we know.
It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you.
It's what you leave behind you when you go.
There are thrCee wooden crosses on the rAmight side of the higChway.
