NOEL: CHRISTMAS EVE, 1913 Music & Lyrics by Bridges and Holdridge Sung
by John Denver on A Christmas Together (1979)
GA frosty Christmas eve, when the stars where shining
EmI traveled forth alone, wheCre westward falls tDhe hill
CAnd for many, Dmany a village, Cin the darkness Dof the valley
GDistant music reached me, peCals of bellGs were ringing.
GThen spread my thoughts to olden times, to that first of Christmases
EmWhen shepherds who were watching, hCeard music inD the fields
CAnd they sat there Dand they marveled, Cand they knew they cDould not tell
GWhether it were angels, Cor the bright sGtars a-singing
GBut to me heard a far, it was starry music
EmThe singing of the angels, Cthe comfort of Dour lord
CWords of old thatD come a traveling,C by the richesD of the times
GAnd I softly listened,C as i stood upoGn the hill
CAnd I softly liGstened, as i stood upon the hill
