This song uses Drop-D tuning. Drop your low E string down two
notes to D. From low to high: D A D G B E
I'm transcribing this from a live show, not from the CD so it
might not be 100% like the CD.
Sometimes the chords sound better just played on the bottom
3 strings. That would make D5(000xxx), F5(333xxx), E5(222xxx)
and Eb5(111xxx). He sometimes plays them like that when he has
the distortion on. You'll hear it, it's easy.
I heard on the radio the other day an acoustic version of this
song. I think it wasn't from a live show because there was no
applause or anything. Maybe it's a B-side on the single or
something. The intro was played differently there, with some
cool slide. If anybody knows what I'm talking about, and knows
how to play it, email it to me. Thanx.
Hi. I'm adding to this file now, few weeks after I made it.
Just wanted to tell you that this acoustic version I was
talking about, you can download it legally at Creed's official
homepage. It's a mp3 file. Check it out, it's great.
The url is:
I've figured out the slide I was talking about in the acoustic
version. First you play the D5 chord as usual (see MAIN-RIFF)
then you play the first F5 chord like this:
F5D5
TAB SYMBOLS USED IN THIS TAB:
h = hammer-on
b = bend note
= slide down
MAIN-RIFF:
D5F5
D5 F5 b = bend note slightly up
Play MAIN-RIFF twice
Court is in session
a verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
On the cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around,
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penence
My skin begins to burn
The last time you play the MAIN-RIFF in the verse before going
into the chorus you play it like this:
MAIN-RIFF-VARIATION:
D5F5
D5F5
(And I said F5oooooooooooooooh...) E5
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inEb5side
Which only fuels their selfish D5pride
(And I said F5ooooooooooooooooooooh...) E5
We're all held captive out from the sun
A sun that shines on only Eb5some
We the meek are all in D5one
Whenever you play a D5 in the chorus, you play
it like this:
D5
Play MAIN-RIFF once
I hear a thunder in the distance
See a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally
Should have been dead
On a sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
Should have been dead
On a sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
TAB FOR PRE-CHORUS: basically the MAIN-RIFF with a few changes
D5Bb5F5
D5Bb5F5
D5Bb5F5
D5Bb5F5
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
We're all held captive out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
GUITAR-SOLO:
