Well, yCou wonder why I always dress in black.
Why you never see bright colors on my Dback, and
FWhy does my appeaCrance, seem toF have a sombre tCone,
Well, there's a Dreason for the things that I have G7on.
IC wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of tDown.
I wFear it for the prCisoner, who has lFong paid for his cCrime.
But is theDre because he's a victim of the tG7imes.
I Cwear the black for those, who've never read,
Or listened to the words, that Jesus saDid,
AboutF the road to happCiness, through lFove and chCarity,
Why, you'd thDink He's talking straight to you and G7me.
WeCll, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak-of-lightnin' cars and fancy cDlothes,
But juFst so we're remiCnded, of, the onFes who are held Cback,
Up frDont there oughta be a man in bG7lack.
I Cwear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones, whose bad trip left them cDold,
I Fwear the black in mCournin', for the lFives that could have bCeen,
Each Dweek we lose a hundred fine young mG7en. and
I Cwear it for the thousands who have died,
Believin' that the Lord was on their sDide,
I Fwear it for anCother hundred thFousand who have dCied,
BelDievin' that we all were on their sG7ide.
WelCl, there's things that never will be right, I know
and things need changin' everywhere you Dgo,
But 'Ftil we start to mCake a move, to maFke a few things riCght,
You'll neDver see me wear a suit of wG7hite.
Aw!C I'd love to wear a rainbow every day, and
Tell the world that ev'rything's DOK
But I'Fll try to carry oCff a little dFarkness on my baCck,
'Til tDhings are brighter, IG7'm the man in bClack.
