From 'Another Side Of Bob Dylan' 1964.
GFar between sundown's Dfinish, and Gmidnight's broken Ctoll
We Gducked inside the Cdoorway, Dthunder Gcrashin'
As majestic bells of Dbolts struck Gshadows in the Csounds
SeemGing to be the Dchimes of freedom Gflashin'
DFlashing for the warriors whose Gstrength is not to fight
CFlashing for the Grefugees in the Amunarmed road of Dflight
And for Geach and every Dunderdog Gsoldier in the Cnight
And we Ggazed upon the Cchimes of Dfreedom Gflashin' D G
In the city's melted Dfurnace, unexpGectedly we Cwatched
With fGaces hidden Das the walls were Gtightening D
As the Gecho of the Dwedding bells Gbefore the blowin' Crain
GDissolved into the Dbells of the Glighting
DTolling for the rebel, Gtolling for the rake
CTolling for the Gluckless, the Amabandoned and Dforsaked
GTolling for the Doutcast, Gburnin' constantly at Cstake
GCDG
And wGe gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashin'
GThrough the mad mysticD hammering of the wild Cripping Ghail
GCDG
The sky cracked its poems in naked wonder
GDG
That the clinging of the church bells blew far into the breeze
DLeaving only bells of lightning and its tGhunder
CStriking for the geGntle, strikAming for the kGind
GDGC
Striking for the guardians and protectors of the mind
An' thGe unpawned painterD behind his riGghtful timCe
GCDGDG
An' we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.
DGC
In the wild cathedral evening the rain unraveled tales
GDGD
For the disrobed faceless forms of no position
GDGC
Tolling for the tongues with no place to bring their thoughts
AlGl down in taken-forD-granted sitGuations
DTolling for the deaf an' blind, toGlling for the mute
CFor the mistreatGed, mateless mAmother, the mistitled proDstitute
ForG the misdemeanorD outlaw, Gchased an' cheated by pursuit C
An' wGe gazed uponG the chimes of Cfreedom flDashing. G
GEven though a clDoud's white curCtain in a far-off coGrner flashed
GCDG
An' the hypnotic splattered mist was slowly lifting
DGC
Electric light still struck like arrows, fired but for the ones
GCondemned to dDrift or else be keGpt from drifting
DTolling for the searching ones, on their speechlesGs, seeking trail
CFor the lonesome-Ghearted lovers with too pAmersonal a talDe
GDGC
An' for each unharmful, gentle soul misplaced inside a jail
GAn' we gazed upCon the chiDmes of fGreedom flashiDngG.
DStarry-eyed anG' laughing Cas I recall when we were caught
GDGD
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
GDGC
As we listened one last time an' we watched with one last look
GSpellbound an' swalDlowed 'til the tolling eGnded
DTolling for the aching Gones whose wounds cannot be nursed
CFor the countlGess confused, Amaccused, misusDed, strung-out ones an' worse
GAn' for every hung-up pDerson in the whoCle wide univerGse
An' we gazGed uponG the chimes of Cfreedom flDashing. G
Enjoy!
